272 - Pirates - 6.5/10 - Walter Matthau stars as a pirate captain who is adrift in a boat with one other sailor. They get picked up by a Spanish galleon which he later takes over through a mutiny. The movie was pretty dull.

273 - Pokemon Detective Pikachu - 7.5/10 - I thought that this was pretty entertaining. A young man teams up with his missing father's pokemon to try and track him down.

:7510:
274 - Hellboy (2019) - 7.5/10 - This got panned when it was released, but I actually thought it was decent and I enjoyed it. It may not have been quite as good as the other two Hellboy movies, but it wasn't bad.

275 - The Gospel According to St. Matthew - 7.5/10 - This 1960s European film lifts all dialog straight from the Bible and portrays Jesus as more of a fighter than he is usually portrayed.

:810:
276 - The Slipper and the Rose - 8/10 - This 1970s musical is a pretty good version of the Cinderella story.

277 - Ad Astra - 7/10 - A space story about a father and son. It was kind of interesting, but moved at a glacial pace.

278 - Joker - 9/10 - I saw it today and thought it was an excellent movie, though it is pretty dark and some parts can be kind of uncomfortable. It isn't going to be for everyone.

:7510:
279 - Long Shot - 7.5/10 - Charlize Theron plays the Secretary of State of the United States and is planning to run for President next year when she gets involved with a reporter that she use to babysit as a kid (Seth Rogen). I thought it was fun.

280 - Brightburn - 7/10 - What if Superboy started hearing voices in his head and turned bad and started killing a bunch of people? That is sort of answered here. It was an okay movie.

:7510:
281 - Tolkien - 7.5/10 - This biopic on JRR Tolkien was pretty good. It starts with him serving in France during WWI and covers his earlier life through extensive flashbacks, including his mother's death, his school days and the friends he made there, his time at Oxford and his romance of a girl named Edith.

:7510:
282 - The Secret life of Pets 2 - 7.5/10 - I thought that this was a fun sequel and almost as good as the original.

:7510:
283 - Tabu - 7.5/10 - This silent film from 1931 takes place on islands in the South Seas and mainly features a Polynesian cast of non-actors. A native girl is chosen to be the virgin maiden by the Chief of the people on a different island. However, she has a lover and the two flee the Chief's messenger who has come to escort the girl to the Chief's island. I thought it was a pretty good film.

284 - The Green Grass of Wyoming - 7.5/10 - A white stallion is stealing mares from various farms and taking them to his herd in the mountains. One of the mares is a recently purchased mare that the owner hopes will be a good harness racer. I thought it was a decent film.

:8510:
285 - The Firemen's Ball - 8.5/10 - Miloš Forman's last film before he left Czechoslovakia is a comedy that I found to be pretty funny and entertaining. The firemen in a small town decide to hold a ball with a raffle and beauty pageant. They also plan to award their retired chairman a ceremonial fire axe. Things start to go wrong very early as the raffle prizes start to disappear from the prize table and the firemen are having trouble getting enough contestants for the beauty pageant.

:710:
286 - Louisiana Story - 7/10 - Excellent visuals and a good score, but a dull story. A cajun Bayou resident signs a lease for an oil company to build a derrick on his property. The man's son spends a lot of time on the bayou and visiting the people on the derrick. He also takes on an alligator that he thinks ate his pet raccoon.

:7510:
287 - The Invisible Man (1933) - 7.5/10 - Claude Rains stars as a scientist who has been driven somewhat mad by a new drug that has caused him to turn invisible. At first, he tries in vain to discover a way to reverse the effect and then he decides to run amok with robbery, murder and general mayhem.

288- The Invisible Man Returns - 7.5/10 - A man is wrongly accused of murdering his brother. The man is sentenced to die, but escapes after being injected with a serum to make him invisible. He is the subject of a police manhunt while he tries to track down the real killer.

:710:
289 - The Invisible Woman - 7/10 - A comedy about a scientist who places an ad in the paper looking for a test subject to become invisible. A store model responds to the ad because she wants to be invisible for a few hours to get even with her old boss. Gangsters become involved because they want the secret of invisibility. It was a decent film.

290 - Invisible Agent - 7/10 - The grandson of the Invisible Man is recruited by the government to spy on the Nazis during WWII and goes on a mission into enemy territory. It was okay.

:7510:
291 - So Dear to My Heart - 7.5/10 - In 1903, a young boy raises a black sheep that gets into a lot of trouble around town for its antics. The boy hopes to take the sheep to the county fair to win a prize. The mix of song, animation and so on was pretty decent.

293 - The Taming of the Shrew (1967) - 7.5/10 - Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton star in this adaptation of the Shakespeare play. I enjoyed it a lot more than I expected. It was pretty good.

294 - Orlando - 7.5/10 - Tilda Swinton plays Orlando, a young man in the court of Elizabeth I near the end of her life. Elizabeth grants Orlando a large income and estate as long as he does not age. Sure enough, Orlando stays the same for a long time. Then, suddenly, during time in Constantinople in 1700, he wakes to find that he has transformed into a woman. Things remain much the same for many years until Orlando finds that being a woman in England has its own challenges. I didn't really expect to like this movie much, but I did enjoy it.

:710:
295 - Address Unknown - 7/10 - A Jewish art dealer in San Francisco has a partner in Germany whose attitude toward Jews change when he comes under scrutiny from the Nazis in the 1930s. When the daughter of the Jewish art dealer goes to Germany to pursue an acting career, her life ends up in danger. This was a decent film, though kind of short in time and in plot.

:710:
296 - The Prizefighter and the Lady - 7/10 - I enjoyed this film about a boxer who is discovered working in a bar and ends up having so much success in the ring that he gets a title shot for the Heavyweight Championship of the World. However, his womanizing may cost him the woman that he loves. Max Baer is pretty good as the main character. Other boxers make an appearance as well.

297 - Tanna - 8/10 - On the Pacific island of Tanna, a number of tribes live in the rainforest or along the coast. Two of the tribes have been warring for years and one of the chiefs wants to bring peace by sending a bride to the other tribe. However, the girl in question is in love with the chief's grandson and the two run off instead. I thought the movie was very well done.

298 - Europa Europa - 8.5/10 - A young Jew is separated from his parents in Poland when the Germans and Russians invade. He ends up in a Russian orphanage for two years. When the Germans invade, his abilities as a translator help him pass as a German and he is sent to an elite Hitler Youth school where he passes as an ethnic German, though he worries about discovery. I thought this was a very good movie.

:810:
299 - Before the Rain - 8/10 - There are three parts of the film and they intersect in places. The theme is violence between different ethnic groups. I think it is a really good movie.

:8510:
300 - A Prophet - 8.5/10 - A 19 year old French-Algerian man is sentenced to a six year prison term. He tries to keep to himself, but is forced to join with the Corsicans who run the prison facility from the inside. He does errands and jobs for them, even after getting release days when he can be out of the prison from 7am-7pm. A Muslim man in the prison teaches him to read and becomes his friend. This is a pretty good crime/prison drama.

:710:
301 - Juliet of the Spirits - 7/10 - Juliet is a middle aged woman who thinks that her husband is having an affair so she hires an investigator to find out for sure. Juliet sees all sorts of colorful characters, though, and this gives the film a very surreal quality. It is very stylish, but I didn't enjoy it a lot.

302 - The Star Witness - 8/10 - A family is eating dinner when they hear gunfire coming from the street. They rush to the window and see two men gunned down. The gangsters who shot the men flee into their home when the police arrive on the scene. When the D.A. gets the family to agree to testify against the main suspect, the gangsters try to intimidate the family into not testifying, including kidnapping one of the kids. I thought it was very well done.
