Making a Selection:
This tutorial only handles the "rectangular" selection, there are other selection choices you can make, I am only handling the basic "rectangular" selection tool here.
First we need to make an image to work on. Click on “file>new” you will get a small window
The first number is to set the width of the image you want to create in pixels. The second number is the height in pixels. The third selection of for how many colors you want to use, just leave it or set it to 24-bit color. Set both of the first numbers to 50, this will create an image 50 pixel by 50 pixels.
It should look sort of like this (your color will probably be white, I have made it purple for reasons I will explain at another point)
What’s a pixel? It is the smallest part of an image.
Here is an image at normal scale.
And here is the same image zoomed in and the red explains or should explain what a pixel is.
Now click your “s” key (if nothing happens read the previous article). Now click on one part of our new image hold down the mouse button and move to another point in the image, now release your mouse button. You should now have something called “marching ants” like this
Why do they they call it “marching ants"......well because it looks like a bunch of marching ants!
You have now made a selection, what can you do with it? Well you can move whatever is in the selection area, copy it, and delete it and a few other things.
