How to make an Icon
Posted on Fri 07 Oct 2005 by Anonymous (721 reads)

First Start out with the outline.

Now fill the line with white

Now we need to give it some form of depth to do this I am going to make it look like its slightly rotated to the right by adding a gradient to the left.

Notice how I added an extra pixel to the top and bottom, this will help with making it seem a bit more round

Now we need to make the circuit area of the card. I made the top flat to match the card and the bottom is only slightly rounded for now, this will be fixed in the next step.

now the gold circuit connectors

Now to make even more round at the bottom. To do this we must once again do some dithering, this can take a while don’t just think your going to slap in some gray's and have it work out the first time, chances are its going to take quite a few times to get it right

Now we need to make the area of the card that would usually contain the sticker for the card, this part of the card is sunk into the card and the following would be reversed for something that comes out. First we have to find out where the lights coming from, from how we did the gradient the light should be coming from the top and in front of the card so the top and left side should be the darkest.

and the lower and right side should be as light as possible but still visible, since the card itself is white I will use a light gray.

Now we can add the text

Now usually I end the text there but for the heck of it I decided to dither it this time, I also dithered the left side and finalized it by changing the border from black to a dark gray, this should help it seem a bit less block and help blend it into the background.
